Zonal Transplant Coordination Center (ZTCC) in Mumbai, Maharashtra was established in 2000. This is a registered, non-governmental organization that acts as a focal point for everything related to cadaver organ donation, retrieval and transportation of the organs, transplantation, etc. The ZTCC is headed by Dr. Gustad B. Daver, who is the President of the organization. Other than him, this organization comprises of the CEOs of all the recognized hospitals of the city, NGOs, surgeons who are expert in the transplantation of various organs, and some of the renowned individuals of the city.
Aims and Objectives
The main aim of ZTCC is to promote cadaver organ donation and transplantation. It aspires to make optimal use of the cadaveric organs available. It is responsible for maintaining a registry of the people waiting for organs according to the guidelines set by the Maharashtra government. It also has the objective to help every person waiting for an organ by making sure that the organs are distributed fairly according to the guidelines prescribed by the government. In a nutshell, the ZTCC has the responsibility to administer the transplant process.
Activities
As the ZTCC’s main focus is to raise awareness about cadaver organ donation, it organizes several activities for the same. The ZTCC conducts talks and workshops, distributes pamphlets, etc., to spread the word about organ donation. These activities are not only conducted for the masses, but also for the people of the medical fraternity. It has conducted workshops at several hospitals to educate the medical and para-medical staff about brain death and organ donation. Organ identification and maintenance, and the importance of counseling the families of the people who died due to brain death, for obtaining their consent to retrieve the organs, are also some of the main issues covered by the ZTCC.

The member NGOs that work with the ZTCC include National Kidney Foundation, National Liver Foundation, National Association for the Blind, Apex Kidney Foundation, and BAHENA (a charitable trust).
